Change of venue for April 28th, 2026

Hi fellow chess players and welcome newcomers!

We hope everyone is enjoying the spring chess season and sharpening those tactics for the upcoming tournaments. As always, the Goderich Chess Club continues to meet regularly at the Goderich Public Library — our home base for casual games, rated matches, analysis sessions, and plenty of friendly banter over the board.

Important one-time notice: On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, we will NOT be in our usual activity room. Instead, we’ll be set up in the Reading Room (just up the stairs — same building, same entrance, same library).

This is a temporary switch only because the normal activity room is already booked for a special library event that afternoon.

For every other date before and after April 28, 2026 we’ll be right back in the activity room where we’ve always been.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding — these things happen when you share a great public space like the library! If you’re planning to join us on the 28th, just head to the main library desk when you arrive and they’ll point you straight to the reading room.

Club growth

In our recent meeting, the club has seen an exciting influx of new members. It’s been great to watch the tables fill up with familiar faces and plenty of newcomers. We have now hit a new peak of 15 players / members. Here are some of the standout additions who’ve joined lately:

Several adults new to in-person chess — some relocating to Goderich or nearby towns along Lake Huron, others rediscovering the game after years away. One newcomer mentioned joining after seeing the club’s simple website and deciding it was time to step away from the screen and learn chess in-person.

A couple of enthusiastic beginners from the area — including a few younger players who’ve been inspired by chess at their school and are now ready to prepare for their next school tournament.

If you’re in the Goderich area and have ever been curious about chess—or if you’ve played a bit and want consistent opponents—the club warmly invites you to drop by any Tuesday. No rating required, no commitment needed.

To the new members: welcome aboard! Your energy is already making Tuesday nights more exciting. Here’s to many great games, surprising checkmates, and new friendships formed over the board.
