No, this club is a non-profit club. Donations are accepted and used to directly fund: replacement of defective equipment, purchasing of new equipment, and a maintenance fee to keep the website hosted.

Do I need to register for the club?
No, there is no registration required.
What is the skill level of the club?
You can be a beginner, intermediate, expert, or master level player. Players of all skill levels are welcome to join the club.
How many people normally attend the club?
Information will be gathered after the launch of the club to determine the average visitors of the club.
Are games recorded? Can I record games? Are score sheets provided?
Games are not recorded unless both participants agree to have the game recorded. Score sheets are not provided.
Does the club use chess clocks? Do I need to know how to use one?
Yes, the club uses chess clocks. Players are not required to use one but are free to use one if they like. If needed, training can be provided to teach players how to use the chess clock correctly.
How do players get paired / matched up?
Players are free to play anyone they like at the club. No pairing software is used unless the game is to be rated.
Are spectators allowed?
Yes, spectators are allowed.
Where should I go for announcements of the club (if the club is closed a certain day, etc)?
If the club is closed, there will be a post on the website. Please refer to the posts / news web page for the latest updates.
Can I bring snacks / drinks to the club?
Drinks in covered containers (with lids) are allowed provided they are non-alcoholic. Snacks are fine to bring as along as it’s not fast food. **Note to be confirmed with library staff on the official policy**
Who is the founder of the club?
Our founder, Riley, is a certified FIDE Arbiter with extensive experience officiating chess tournaments for both adults and children. Throughout his playing career, he achieved expert-level strength, peaking at a rating of over 1900 CFC. Riley possesses advanced proficiency in the Swiss Manager pairing system and is fluent in English and French. He has specialized expertise in Digital Game Technology (DGT), particularly with the broadcasting software utilized by platforms such as chess.com and lichess.org.
