Mandate

Our mandate is to build a vibrant, inclusive chess community in Goderich and the surrounding Huron County area, where people of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds can discover, enjoy, learn, and grow through the game of chess.

Vision Statement

The Goderich Chess Club aims to be a community where players of all skill levels can connect, grow, and share a passion for chess, focusing on being friendly and supportive while offering challenging matches. It welcomes everyone from seasoned players to newcomers, providing an inclusive and supportive environment.

President

Riley
FIDE Arbiter · Club Founder · President

Our founder, Riley, is a certified FIDE Arbiter with extensive experience officiating chess tournaments for both adults and children. Throughout his playing career, he achieved expert-level strength, peaking at a rating of over 1900 CFC.

Riley possesses advanced proficiency in the Swiss Manager pairing system and is fluent in English and French. He has specialized expertise in Digital Game Technology (DGT), particularly with the broadcasting software utilized by platforms such as chess.com and lichess.org.

Riley is an active and proud member of several prominent chess clubs, including the Etobicoke Chess Club, Mississauga Chess Club, and Goderich Chess Club.

Jamison
Vice-President

Our Vice-President, Jamison, is an ambitious intermediate player with a peak rating over 1000.

He is working towards becoming a National Arbiter and enjoys teaching others how to play. He started volunteering and decided he wanted to take on a larger role in growing the club. When he's not playing, he's studying openings.

Treasurer

Michael
Treasurer

Our Treasurer, Michael, graduated from Sheridan with a Business Administration Diploma. He has recently moved up to Goderich and enjoys the game of chess.

He started volunteering with the club and decided to become more involved and take on the role of Treasurer. Outside of chess, Michael enjoys studying nutrition.
